Abstract

The use of a noncontrast head computed tomography (CT) is more often becoming part of the screening tools in the emergency department for multiple neurologic and traumatic complaints. Head CT scan is of the utmost importance for interpretation in a timely and reliable fashion within the emergency department. This article offers a review of brain anatomy via CT scan and a basic interpretation of the acute neurologic emergencies (e.g., intracranial hemorrhage and infarction) that present in emergency care settings.
