SECTION II

a. conjugated estrogens, 0.3 mg, 0.45 mg, 0.625 mg; medroxyprogesterone acetate, 1.5 mg, 2.5 mg, 5 mg

 

Indicated to treat moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause, this combination contains conjugated estrogens and the progestin medroxyprogesterone. If your patient misses a dose, tell her to skip the missed dose and to take one tablet the next day; she should not take two doses at the same time.

 

b. chlorpheniramine maleate, 8 mg; pseudoephedrine HCl, 120 mg

 

Used to control allergy symptoms, this sustained-release capsule contains chlorpheniramine, a sedating antihistamine, and pseudoephedrine, a decongestant. Tell your patient to report insomnia, which may be an adverse reaction to pseudoephedrine.

 

c. lopinavir, 100 mg, 200 mg; ritonavir, 25 mg, 50 mg

 

Prescribed to treat HIV infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents, this tablet contains two protease inhibitors, lopinavir and ritonavir. Instruct your patient to swallow the tablet whole; warn him not to chew, break, or crush it.

 

d. oxycodone HCl, 4.8 mg; aspirin, 325 mg

 

Indicated to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain, this combination contains oxycodone, an opioid analgesic, and aspirin, a nonopioid analgesic. The usual dosage is one tablet every 6 hours as needed for pain. Warn your patient to take no more than 12 tablets per day.

 

e. each 5 mL contains: ephedrine sulfate, 6.25 mg; theophylline, 32.5 mg; hydroxyzine HCl, 2.5 mg

 

This combination may help relieve bronchospasm in patients with asthma. Ephedrine and theophylline are bronchodilators; hydroxyzine, a sedating antihistamine, reduces excitement and may dry bronchial secretions. Warn your patient about the possibility of drowsiness and caution him against driving a car or other activities requiring mental alertness while using this drug.
