Hi Catherine - thank your for your comment! Certification does instill a sense of pride, doesn't it?

I am a certified nurse and have been for about 12 years. I was also certified when I worked in Med,Surg. To me it just makes me feel better to be able to say I am certified in my chosen area of nursing. I have found it helpful when trying to explain how to care for patients when I say to a family or a doctor that I am certified in hospice and palliative care. I have found they listen better knowing that I am certified.
One of the blocks is the need for a BSN to be cretified and that has held me back because I only got my BSN 2 years ago. It is possible and doable to pass the test without a BSN although I do understand the need to have all nurses have a BSN to help the profession.
