JBI premier software for the systematic
review of literature

The System for the Unified Management, Assessment and Review of Information (SUMARI) is the Joanna Briggs Institute's premier software for the systematic review of literature. It is designed to assist researchers and practitioners in fields such as health, social sciences and humanities to appraise and synthesis evidence of feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulness and effectiveness; to conduct economic evaluations of activities and interventions.

SUMARI is designed to facilitate the entire review process, from protocol development, team management, study selection, critical appraisal, data extraction, data synthesis and writing a systematic review report.

Think of it as a word processor, reference management program, statistical and qualitative data analysis program all in one, easy-to-use web application.

Please note: On September 6, 2017, we changed the access links to SUMARI and you will be automatically redirected to the new and improved online SUMARI tool.

What's the difference between the old and new versions of SUMARI?
There are many substantial differences between the old and new versions of SUMARI. The new SUMARI now supports more review types. It's also now an online web-based application so there's no need to download and install any software. For more, visit the Features page for a full list of all functions now available in the new SUMARI: https://www.jbisumari.org/#features, or download the brochure.

Starting a New Review or Protocol?
If you want to start a new Systematic Review Protocol or Systematic Review please use the new version of SUMARI. JBI has created some excellent tutorial videos available here: http://jbiSUMARI.org/#tutorials.

Completing an existing review or protocol?
If you have an existing review or protocol project that you want to complete

  • You should complete your in-process reviews in CReMS
  • CReMS access will continue via the software you have already installed.
  • Your secondary reviewers will need to use the old analytical modules which are linked via the FAQ on the new Online SUMARI Tool page.
  • Please note the CReMS software is no longer supported.
