FRIDAY, April 23 (HealthDay News) -- A series of articles summarizing some of the most important 2009 studies in the fields of cardiology, gastroenterology and hepatology, hematology and oncology, pulmonary/critical care medicine, and nephrology were published online April 21 in the Annals of Internal Medicine to coincide with the annual scientific meeting of the American College of Physicians, held from April 22 to 24 in Toronto.
Editor Christine Laine, M.D., and colleagues selected the studies based on factors such as novelty, quality, and potential impact on clinical practice.
The cardiology update includes summaries of nine articles, including advances in antithrombotic therapy and the management of multivessel coronary artery disease. The gastroenterology and hepatology update includes summaries of 11 articles on topics such as esophageal disorders, proton pump inhibitor therapy, liver disease, acute pancreatitis, pelvic floor disorders, and bowel disorders. The hematology and oncology update includes summaries of 15 studies addressing topics such as breast cancer and prostate cancer. The pulmonary/critical care medicine update includes summaries of studies on the management of chronic obstructive lung disease, pneumonia and asthma, while the nephrology update includes summaries of studies that presented new information on lupus nephritis and end-stage renal disease.
