Focus On: Influenza

Influenza – many causes, yet the focus this season is on influenza A (H1N1), commonly referred to as swine flu. While the H1N1 virus is similar to seasonal influenza in that it causes the same signs and symptoms and is also spread by droplet transmission, infection with this virus does have certain significant differences; the populations of people who are infected differ and the duration of the contagious period appears to be longer. Take some time to explore this collection of influenza resources: make sure you understand the basics of the disease, learn more specific information about H1N1 and pandemic influenza, review prevention and treatment options, and access patient education resources. We welcome your comments!
