Abstract

The lack of experienced RNs, combined with significant growth in key service areas, required managers to examine traditional hiring and orientation processes at the Washington Hospital Center. The authors discuss the development of a competency-based framework to bring new graduate nurses into specialty nursing areas, including cardiology and high-risk obstetrics.
