Abstract

A prospective descriptive internet-based survey was conducted to determine registered dietitian (RDs) use of Nutrition Focused Physical Examination (NFPE) skills and factors influencing use. From a random sample of 2447 RDs there was a 15.8% (n = 367) response rate. Over one-third of respondents (34.6%, n = 120) received prior NFPE training. Anthropometric measurements were among the skills most frequently reported as those that were "performed independently". For 13 of 20 skills the most frequent response was "do not perform or use in assessment." Those with prior NFPE training were significantly more likely to independently perform select skills (P < .0001). An increased emphasis on NFPE training may influence NFPE usage.
