At the 2010 annual meeting of the WOCN, Susan Chicano and Colleen Drolshagen accepted the Clinical Manuscript Award for the paper "Reducing Hospital-Acquired Pressure Ulcers" (Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing. 36(1):45-50, January/February 2009). They described a quality improvement project designed to reduce hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, influencing daily practice, and translating these changes into meaningful reductions in the incidence of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers.

 

Barbara Bates-Jensen, Heather McCreath, and Voranan Pongquan accepted the Research Manuscript Award for "Subepidermal Moisture Is Associated With Early Pressure Ulcer Damage in Nursing Home Residents With Dark Skin Tones: Pilot Findings" (Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing. 36(3):277-284, May/June 2009), examining the relationship between a measure of skin and tissue water, subepidermal moisture, and visual assessment of early pressure ulcer damage in nursing home residents with dark skin tones.
