This issue's continuing education feature discusses important legal privileges that the nurse executive needs to be aware of if he/she becomes involved with issues with potential legal impact on his/her employer. Another article discusses the nurse executive's obligations in addressing substance abuse among nursing staff, which, if the statistics are correct, impacts about 6 of 10 nurses-thus, it is imperative for all nursing leaders to be aware and prepared to respond. Our last article discusses the potential for nursing liability when a nurse fails to utilize available equipment that is designed to prevent medication errors.

 

It's hard to believe we're beginning our 13th year. As this issue goes to press, the new Congress is threatening to try to overturn the health care reform package passed last year.
