This book is the perfect endoscopy room companion for any advanced practice endoscopy nurse, gastroenterologist, gastroenterology fellow, or anyone who is looking for quick, accurate, and concise answers to difficult dilemmas and practice scenarios frequently encountered in the endoscopy suite. While the book is introduced as a tool to assist practicing gastroenterologists in the management of a variety of different gastrointestinal conditions, the book would be a useful tool to any practitioner in endoscopy who is interested in the special techniques discovered by the experts over the years. The physical book is easy to transport and handle. The table of contents and index are arranged to offer quick and easy access to answers as they are needed.

The book is well-written by a group of eminent medical contributors. The contributors consist of therapeutic endoscopists who offer their expert opinions in a direct manner. The writing style is clear. Explanations are concise. Subject matter is interesting and the topics are well organized into sections that flow from upper endoscopy to colonoscopy, followed by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, endoscopic ultrasound, and capsule endoscopy. The final section consists of a group of miscellaneous questions ranging from how to choose the correct diagnostic test in the diagnosis of a small bowel lesion to the best treatment for benign strictures. The book is very readable and the explanations are easy to follow. The feel of the book suggests a conversational approach to problems discussed between colleagues.

Because the book is written by experts in the field, no space is wasted on editorializing. The content is current, complete, and balanced. Illustrations are well placed and appropriate to the specific topics. The majority of the contributors have used references to support their advice, preferences, and suggestions.

In an age when time is short and schedules are hectic, this book offers fast solutions to challenging problems. I would highly recommend this book as part of the minireference library that should be at hand's length for anyone who practices gastrointestinal endoscopy. I give this book a rating of "highly favorable."
