Abstract

ABSTRACT: A punch biopsy may be performed to obtain supplemental objective information that will aid in the diagnosis process. A punch excision may be performed to remove an atypical nevus in its entirety for pathology review or to remove a small epidermal inclusion cyst for cosmetic purposes. The purpose of this article is to review some fundamentals and present several procedural pearls to help dermatology nurse practitioners perfect their punch biopsy and punch excision technique.
