At the 2011 Annual Meeting of the WOCN, Judith Young, Mary Ernsting, Amira Kehoe, and Kathleen Holmes accepted the Clinical Manuscript Award for their paper "Results of a Clinician-Led Evidence-Based Task Force Initiative Relating to Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment and Prevention" (Journal of Wound, Ostomy & Continence Nursing. 37(5):495-503, September/October 2010). They assembled a clinician-led task force to identify and apply current evidence to clinical practice in the areas of risk assessment and prevention of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers in the inpatient setting. Data collected prior to and following their process improvement project demonstrated significant improvement in patient outcomes.

 

G. Lindsay McCrea, Christine Miaskowski, Nancy A. Stotts, Liz Macera, Steven M. Paul, and Madhulika G. Varma accepted the Research Manuscript Award for their paper "Age Differences in Patients Evaluated for Constipation: Constipation Characteristics, Symptoms, and Bowel and Dietary Habits" (Journal of Wound, Ostomy & Continence Nursing. 37(6):667-679, November/December 2010), determining the influence of age, comorbid conditions, and specific clinical characteristics such as use of pain medications on various categories of constipation.
