Abstract

The Heart of New Ulm Project aims to reduce coronary events in an entire community. In October 2009, 3 focus groups consisting of moms, caregivers, and general population were conducted with New Ulm residents. The goal was to understand their beliefs and experiences with regard to the project, healthy living, and technology in an effort to tailor future marketing and programming. Priorities differed among groups, but all agreed on the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices convenient. Communication preferences varied from traditional methods such as flyers and mail to newer technologies, such as text messaging, Facebook, and personal health records.
