It's the only injectable dopamine agonist. Adverse reactions include hallucinations, edema, lethargy, and dyskinesias.A catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitor, this drug helps increase levodopa's effects by blocking the enzyme that breaks down levodopa. Adverse reactions include dyskinesias and orthostatic hypotension.This combination drug allows levodopa to pass into the brain before it undergoes premature conversion to dopamine. After long-term use, levodopa's benefit may decrease and the patient can experience a wearing-off effect.
