At the recent 44th annual meeting of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society, 3M, St Paul, Minnesota, and the society announced that the Adult Critical Care Skin Care Team from Strong Memorial Hospital of Rochester, New York, was the inaugural recipient of the 3M Award for Excellence in Skin Safety.

To compete for the award, facilities were invited by the WOCN to submit summaries of skin care programs that have achieved measurable and sustained results and that also demonstrate best-in-class prevention protocols, product formulary, interdisciplinary participation, and senior leadership engagement, as well as creative and effective staff and patient education. Members of the winning team received complementary travel and attendance to the annual WOCN conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. Strong Memorial Hospital is a teaching hospital composed of 3 patient care centers that are part of the University of Rochester Medical Center. The facility's program was selected for its outstanding achievements in pressure ulcer prevention and promotion of skin integrity.
