KCI, San Antonio, Texas, has launched in the United States the Skin IQ 1000 Microclimate Manager (MCM) by its Therapeutic Support Systems business. The Skin IQ 1000 MCM is a mattress cover that, when combined with a bariatric pressure redistribution mattress, such as the AtmosAir Fit Mattress Replacement System, helps prevent and treat Stage I to IV pressure ulcers for patients who weigh up to 1000 lb.

Wound Management Technologies, Inc, Fort Worth, Texas, announced the first application of its new product, CellerateRX Surgical. This product was used as the primary, full-thickness incision dressing for a surgical procedure performed by an orthopedic surgeon in Texas. The patented, hydrolyzed collagen product is cleared by the Food and Drug Administration for surgical wounds and can be used alone or can safely be combined with other agents, such as antibiotics, according to the manufacturer.

ConvaTec, Skillman, New Jersey, has introduced Aquacel Ag Extra wound dressing, incorporating proprietary hydrofiber technology. The new dressing features strengthening fibers, making it especially appropriate for managing highly exuding wounds when strength and absorbency are needed most, according to the manufacturer. Aquacel Ag Extra is designed to be several times stronger and more absorbent than the current dressings in the Aquacel line. The new dressings can be used in combination with the recently launched Aquacel Foam dressings.
