The In the News article, "Barriers to Implementing Evidence-Based Practice Remain High for U.S. Nurses" (December 2012), discusses the inconsistent use of evidence-based practice (EBP).

We're nursing students in an accelerated bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program that includes the use of EBP as a key component of the curriculum. With more hospitals requiring that applicants have a BSN, the number of nurses who have learned an EBP approach can be expected to increase.

This article reports that much of the resistance to implementing EBP is coming from nurse managers and nurse leaders; thus, it will be interesting to see if greater changes in practice occur as a new generation of nurses moves up into leadership positions.
