In response to the continuing problem of alarm fatigue, particularly in critical care, telemetry, and general medicine hospital departments, the Joint Commission has issued a Sentinel Event Alert with recommendations on ways to reduce patient harm. The alert also proposes the possible development of a National Patient Safety Goal, because solutions require "leadership and a multidisciplinary approach."
