Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present a review of the literature that guides the decision-making process with regard to when to use a mechanical lift, taking into consideration the patient's status, the caregiver, and the environment. Specific patient characteristics to contemplate when assessing the need for a lift and the types of lifts available will be examined.
