Thanks to the reviewers and editorial board of The Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA)! I am blessed to serve in a role I love and to work with gifted and dedicated nurse leaders, educators, and researchers. Few readers realize the level of commitment of these individuals as they readily accept peer review assignments with tight deadlines, provide expert guidance to authors, and make recommendations to me regarding levels of acceptance for publication for hundreds of manuscripts each year. Editorial board members and peer reviewers also provide suggestions for direction for JONA and represent me and our journal in many venues to our readers. I cannot express my gratitude enough!
This year is especially meaningful because of the recent passing of Suzanne P. Smith, EdD, RN, FAAN, our editor-in-chief emerita. Suzanne was the power behind the growth and success of JONA for over 30 years. In the January 2014 edition, I will be remembering Suzanne for her contributions to JONA and to many of us who she encountered as novice authors and researchers early in our careers. Many of the JONA Editorial Board members and peer reviewers were friends and colleagues of Suzanne's. We have become even more aware of how important our professional and personal bonds are with Suzanne's passing. I would be remiss in thanking the supporters of JONA in this column if I did not mention Suzanne as well.
The Journal of Nursing Administration continues to receive over 400 manuscripts for consideration a year. We are a valued publication with an acceptance rate of 15% (thus a rejection rate of 85%) and an impact factor of 1.329. I appreciate the support and interest of the thousands of readers who access JONA regularly in print, on the Web, or on iPads.
Thanks to the authors who e-mail me with inquiries about ideas for articles. Healthcare will continue to change and evolve, and I look forward to a new year of challenges and opportunities. I will commit to you, our readers, Editorial Board members, and peer reviewers, that we will continue the great legacy established by Dr Smith as we move forward. She set the bar high.
