Abstract

This project was conducted at a cooking camp to analyze the cooking and menu-planning self-efficacy of children and to determine whether these skills could influence healthier eating habits. Four surveys were used to evaluate participants. Significant increases in their confidence to plan meals were observed. Participants used the Menu Planning Plate Web site to plan meals throughout the week at the camp. The majority of children indicated that the Web site was easy to use and that they would use the tool after camp. Teaching children how to plan and cook their own meals could increase their likelihood of choosing healthy foods.
