Abstract

Abstract: Lillian Wald, a pivotal figure in nursing history, is known as the mother of public health nursing and renowned as a ground-breaking social worker. In founding the Henry Street Settlement in 1893, Wald also launched the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY), today the nation's largest nonprofit home and community-based healthcare organization. This article describes Lillian Wald's contributions to public health and community nursing.
