N utrition Today's editorial advisory board member Catherine E. O'Connor Woteki was recently named Dean of the Iowa State University (ISU) College of Agriculture. She is the first woman to serve in this position at ISU. Dr Woteki served from 1997 to 2001 as the first Undersecretary for Food Safety in the US Department of Agriculture and most recently as senior research scientist with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Maryland, College Park, and professor of nutrition and food safety at the University of Nebraska. Woteki is a nutritional epidemiologist, who received her BS in biology and chemistry from Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, Va, and her MS and PhD in human nutrition from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Deputy Associate Director for Science in the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy from 1994 to 1996, she coauthored the Clinton administration's science policy statement, Science in the National Interest. "We are delighted with the appointment of Catherine Woteki as dean of one of our most important colleges," says ISU President Gregory Geoffroy. "Her background and her leadership experience will be invaluable assets for the College of Agriculture and the university as a whole."
