a. Dapagliflozin/metformin

This once-daily combination contains a biguanide (metformin) and a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor (dapagliflozin). It's contraindicated in patients with moderate-to-severe renal impairment, a history of hypersensitivity to either drug, or metabolic acidosis. Instruct patients to take this medication with food to minimize gastrointestinal adverse reactions and to never crush, cut, or chew the tablets.

b. Empagliflozin

Belonging to the SGLT2 inhibitor drug class, this oral medication lowers blood glucose by blocking glucose reabsorption in the kidneys and increasing urinary glucose excretion. Teach patients to recognize signs and symptoms of dehydration and genital mycotic infections, and to report them to the healthcare provider.

c. Insulin human inhalation powder

A rapid-acting insulin administered via inhalation before meals, this medication is intended to improve glycemic control in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. As with other insulin products, monitor patients for signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia. This medication is contraindicated in patients with impaired pulmonary function.

d. Albiglutide

Taken once a week, this glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist works by promoting insulin secretion in the presence of glucose and slowing gastric emptying. It's contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple. Teach patients about the importance of proper drug storage and subcutaneous injection technique.
