Abstract

Abstract: Encephalitis is defined as inflammation of brain tissue leading to alterations in level of consciousness, cognition, and behavior. Encephalitis can range from mild with full recovery to fulminant leading to death in 4% to 30% of those affected. Approximately one-half of encephalitis survivors have permanent neurologic deficits and require long-term care.
