Dear Ms. Springer,

I acknowledge your concern about basic infection control and following the guidelines set forth from the manufacturers. The process I described in the article is an off-label solution to reduce waste and spare patients' pain and bruising from dull needles. Accurate doses are very attainable with insulin syringes, but the needles cannot be removed. Placing tiny needles through a rubber stopper dulls the fragile needle, increases pain, causes bruising, and gives a less than favorable injection experience. Removal of the rubber stopper has become a standard of care for many practitioners around the world. The steps taken for reconstitution of a neurotoxin must follow a strict protocol to ensure product integrity and content sterility. I wholeheartedly agree that profit should never be placed over patient safety.
