Abstract

A RARE GENETIC disorder, familial dysautonomia (FD) affects the sensory and autonomic functions of individuals of Ashkenazi (central or eastern European) Jewish descent. FD affects a wide range of autonomic (involuntary) functions, including digestion, breathing, body temperature, BP, and tear production, as well as such sensory functions as taste and perception of pain, heat, and cold.
