Abstract

When a hospitalized patient experiences a critical medical event such as cardiac arrest, other patients on the unit are at greater risk of experiencing a critical event as well. In a study involving 13 non-ICUs of about 20 beds each, researchers examined the effect of a critical event on other patients in the unit. The primary outcome was a composite of cardiac arrest and ICU transfer.
