The ASPSN holds review courses for both examinations annually at the convention, which allows for an interactive preparation for the course. The review courses are being updated from the new blueprint that was created from the survey last year. Both the CANS and the CPSN have had test rewrites over the past year to update the examinations. The Core Curriculum is an excellent text to use in preparation. The most recent fourth edition has a section specifically created to prepare the aesthetic nurse specialist for the CANS examination. Material specifically correlates with test questions.

If you are planning on recertifying this year, please remember the following tips when submitting your packets for Board approval:

* Packets must be submitted 30 days prior to your recertification deadline. This date also appears in the ASPSN members-only area as a reminder.

* CPSN and CANS certifications are nursing certifications; therefore, the Certification Board is looking to receive credits approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Although there may be some continuing medical education (CME) that may be appropriate for nursing education, any person recertifying using any CME credit must submit these credit hours to the Certification Board in advance of submitting his or her packets for review.

* When in doubt, ask! If you have any question on whether a particular course is applicable, please contact the National Office. It is also helpful to include a copy of the program for larger courses to allow the Board to review the content to determine eligibility.

Respectfully,
