Abstract

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STI) and is a leading cause of cervical cancer. Knowledge of the genomic structure and life cycle enhances comprehension of viral transmission and replication, and the progression toward cancer. This information is essential for understanding the potential for the development of vaccines, and is relevant for the clinician to provide optimum care.
