Abstract

Objective: To develop an understanding of community lighting and its impact on older adults.

Subjects and Methods: This mixed-methods study addressed lighting in 94 facilities in a 3x3 block area. Lux, the amount of light on a surface area, was measured in key areas within facilities.

Results and Conclusions: The amount of light and glare varied within and across facilities. Because of variability of lighting and glare, it is recommended to train older adults in techniques to increase lighting and decrease glare in the community.
