This book addresses 604 different medical, surgical, and health care topics, devoting two pages in length each to six areas of information: basics, diagnosis, treatment, medications, followup, and miscellaneous (including associated conditions, age-related factors ICD-9-CM, references, and abbreviations). It includes 434 short topics (several to a page) that cover descriptions, causes, treatment, and the appropriate ICD-9-CM, arranged in alphabetical order, covering diseases and conditions that can occur within all the main body systems.

Readers will be pleased with the inclusion of new information and advances in clinical diagnosis and treatment in this edition. The back of the book includes an expanded ICD-9-CM Index and a comprehensive topic index allowing instant access to the book's information. The convenience of having over 1,000 topics arranged alphabetically with cross-indexing to synonyms of each is very helpful to clinicians. The information is brief, but up-to-date and accurate, written by over 300 clinicians writing within their own areas of interest and expertise. Primary care providers will find that this book presents the initial and important essential kernels of information necessary about specific conditions. Busy clinicians will appreciate this quick reference with its easy access and rapid information retrieval availability.
