Abstract: Architects have applied modular design concepts for years. Projects benefiting most are those where a few room types are repeated often. Ambulatory care facilities are excellent candidates because this project type typically consists of a large number of rooms that can be standardized. The new Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Office Building illustrates the benefits and flexibility of modular design.
