The American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American Diabetes Association have joined forces to promote a single set of recommendations to help Americans reduce their risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke-which together account for almost two-thirds of all American deaths. The program focuses on disease prevention through the modification of certain risk factors over which patients have some control, such as smoking status, weight, activity level, and diet.
