Pilots from a nonprofit group called Angel Flight America offer free air transportation to patients who need regular treatments but who live far from medical care. The pilots volunteer their time.

Angel Flight America has six regional chapters and more than 5,000 pilots nationwide. Their pilots fly about 15,000 missions every year. The group will consider flying any patient who can't pay for commercial transportation to life-sustaining treatment if he has at least some mobility. Similar organizations in the United States include Skydoc, Inc., Wings for Children, Volunteer Mercy Pilots, and Corporate Angels.
