Johnson & Johnson Wound Management (Somerville, N.J.) introduced the SILVERCEL antimicrobial alginate wound dressing, which provides the broad-spectrum antimicrobial action of silver and the enhanced exudate management properties of alginate technology. The new dressing acts as an effective barrier and may help reduce infection.

According to Johnson & Johnson, SILVERCEL dressing has been proven effective in vitro against 150 clinically isolated microorganisms, including antibiotic-resistant strains.

SILVERCEL is a primary dressing designed to help reduce infection in moderate-to-heavily exudating partial- to full-thickness wounds, including pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, donor sites, and traumatic and surgical wounds.

SILVERCEL should not be used on third-degree burns, patients with known sensitivity to alginates or silver, or to control bleeding.
