The nurses of the gastroenterology unit at Massachusetts General Hospital recognized patients who were undergoing a pH probe insertion were extremely anxious about the procedure and had several questions about restrictions and activities. The patients' anxiety impacted placement of the catheter. In addition, these patients required long periods of time for teaching following the procedure. The motility team developed a patient education video that is shown prior to the procedure. The video explains the procedure, demonstrates the use of the digitrapper, and answers frequently asked questions. Data was collected prior to and after the implementation of the video. The video has decreased patient anxiety and the time required for teaching post procedure.
