How and what physicians and facilities get paid impacts gastroenterology nurses in every setting. All gastroenterology nurses, not just managers or administrators, need to appreciate how gastroenterology procedures get reimbursed and the relationship between revenue, staff, supplies, patient volume, and flow. Basic endoscopy unit orientation does not include this education. However, this knowledge is key to realizing where gastroenterology endoscopy nursing fits into the delivery of patient services in today's cost-conscious healthcare environment. This 60-minute session sorts out the confusing alphabet soup of reimbursement including "CPT," "ICD," and "RVU." It reviews and applies fundamental concepts of reimbursement to daily gastroenterology nursing practice.
