I-Flow Corporation's (Lake Forest, Calif.) ON-Q Soaker, a 10-inch catheter, is now approved for use with the company's ON-Q Painbuster system to reduce pain and narcotic intake after surgery by providing a continuous infusion of local anesthetic via catheter directly into the surgical site for up to 5 days. The new catheter is longer than those previously approved (1-inch, 2.5-inch, and 5-inch) and can distribute anesthetic over larger areas. The completely portable system can be carried in a pouch or attached to a patient's clothing. The product's unique design allows for greater versatility in catheter placement and enhanced distribution of medication. The expected applications of the product include cardiac, bariatric, and other surgical procedures requiring long incisions.
