As part of the collaboration between the Alliance for Nursing Informatics and CIN: Computers, Informatics, Nursing, we have created a new department in CIN, the ANI Connection (see accompanying article for more detail on the collaboration). I am pleased to announce that Deborah Lewis, EdD, MPH, RN, will be serving as editor for the ANI Connection and coordinating all the content that will be featured in these pages.

Deb is very excited by this opportunity. As she notes, "CIN is already the premier publication for nursing informatics. The addition of the ANI Connection provides the opportunity to expand the focus to include timely material relevant to ANI member organizations and nurse informaticians."

The ANI Connection represents an exciting opportunity not often found in nursing publications. The vision and future direction for nursing informatics and the potential of this publication will only be bounded by your input. ANI Connection will present "breaking news" and information as well as submissions that cut across the scope of practice, including position papers and white papers. The content will be peer reviewed, when appropriate.

Deb's interest in editing was heightened by her recent experience editing Consumer Health Informatics, published by Springer-Verlag. She currently serves as Program Coordinator for Nursing Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing.

Her work in informatics began during her doctoral education and was formalized when she completed an NLM Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Medical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh.

Deb has an extensive list of publications in peer-reviewed journals, including CIN and JAMIA. In fact, she has an article in this very issue!! (see "Caring Place: Internet Resources for Children with Cancer" on pages 265-274) (In the interest of full disclosure, please be aware that this article had gone through the peer review process and was assigned to the issue long before Deb was selected as ANI Connection Editor.) She also serves as a manuscript reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed publications and as a collateral research reviewer for Sigma Theta Tau.

Deb has held leadership positions within AMIA both in the Nursing Informatics Working Group and in the organization through service on several committees, including her current role as a member of the Publications committee.

Deb welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the development of the ANI Connection section.

Please consider contributing to ANI Connection by submitting "breaking news" and information that would be of interest to the ANI member organizations and CIN readership. You can contact her at [email protected] or by phone at 412-624-9647. Deb will also be at the 2005 AMIA Annual Symposium and would love to chat with CIN readers and ANI members during the conference.
