Kolb writes, "This piece was inspired by an herbalist and healer who lives in a commune in Florida. Like other commune members, she traces her lineage back to 18th-century escaped slaves who found sanctuary with the native tribes of the New World; she is also part Cherokee. The group lives off the land and their craftwork, as well as by teaching and performing traditional African dance and drumming."
