National Healing Corporation (NHC), Boca Raton, FL, announced that New York-based Morgan Stanley Venture Partners and Foster City, CA-based BA Venture Partners have become majority stakeholders in the corporation. NHC manages more than 20% of the nation's managed wound healing centers, specializing in the treatment of chronic and unresponsive conditions.

NHC has also teamed with Ohio State University for a study to discover why some wounds heal and others do not. The study's objective is to screen the human genome to identify patterns of gene expression in vascular cells, with a focus on diabetic foot ulcers. Cells will be captured from biopsies collected from wounds that have both responded and not responded to clinical care. The first patient in the study was enrolled in June at Ohio State University Hospital East, Columbus, OH.

Misonix, Inc, Farmingdale, NY, has received a Canadian Device License for the Misonix SonicOne Ultrasonic Wound Debridement System. Regulatory approval in Canada follows the June 2005 announcement that Misonix had received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration to market the product for the specific purpose of wound debridement.

In clinical tests at hospitals in Milan, Italy; Tempe, AZ; and Brooklyn, NY, use of the Misonix Ultrasonic Wound Debridement System resulted in excellent granulation of the wound bed with minimal or no bleeding at the wound site. Health care providers can easily distinguish tissue types and stop debridement when the viable tissue bed is reached.
