Abstract

I have two comments on your December issue. Regarding the article on teen suicide, I'd like to add that you should always consider a teen's sexual orientation ("What Can You Do to Prevent Teen Suicide?"). Many gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning youth struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts.

Second, in the article on responding to tooth avulsion during a sporting event, you don't mention taking precautions against bloodborne pathogens ("Tooth Avulsion," Action Stat). Most coaches have a first-aid kit containing gloves on hand. No one should come near blood without protection.
