I work with an ICU physician who rarely talks with families about stopping futile medical treatment for terminally ill patients. Often, I'm the one who first broaches the topic with families and encourages them to discuss their options with the physician. He says that he waits for the family to tell him when it's time to stop. What do you think about his viewpoint?
