Dear Editor,

I subscribe to Clinical Nurse Specialist: The Journal for Advanced Nursing Practice. The January/February 2006 issue included a Directory of Clinical Nurse Specialist Programs in the United States, 2005, but for some reason, the Malone program was not included. The MSN program at Malone College (Canton, OH) includes a track for clinical nurse specialist-adult/medical surgical nursing that is CCNE accredited. Thank you for including the Malone CNS program in any future listing of CNS programs.

NACNS EDUCATION COMMITTEE RESPONSE

The Education Committee of NACNS tried to be as accurate as possible when creating the CNS Program Directory. The intent was to create a comprehensive list of clinical nurse specialist programs; no blended CNS/NP programs were included. The initial CNS Program Directory, published in 2003, was compiled from a comprehensive survey of all graduate programs in nursing in the United States, a process that included several follow-up mailings. All programs that responded to the survey and indicated a desire to have their program included in the directory were listed in the CNS Program Directory published in 2003. Following that publication, NACNS continued to update the list when they received notification of new CNS Programs or requests for additional programs to be included. Before publishing the updated CNS Program Directory, the Education Committee reviewed the data on CNS programs obtained through the annual American Association of Colleges of Nursing survey of nursing programs and updated the directory accordingly. Despite our attempt to be as inclusive as possible, we realize that some CNS programs may not have been included in the list. As indicated in the article, NACNS wants this list to be as comprehensive as possible and would like to be notified of any programs that should be added to the CNS Program Directory. If you would like your program to be added to the CNS Program Directory, please e-mail the following information to NACNS: the school name, address, phone number, Web site, program directors name and contact information including e-mail, and specialty options offered. Please send this information to [email protected]. We will be publishing the CNS Program directory on the NACNS Web site and plan to update the Directory periodically as new programs are added. Thank you for your interest and assistance in the CNS Program Directory.
