Two important pieces of information for nurses should be added to the article on prescription drug benefits. Since some nurses do continue to work past age 65, they should be reminded that they need to enroll in Medicare Part A at the time of their 65th birthday but can delay enrollment in Part B and Part D as long as they have group health insurance. If nurses continue to work and have a group health insurance benefit, they should request a letter from their benefits employer for their own records indicating that the plan is at least as beneficial as the Medicare Part D plan-they then will have the ability to enroll in a Medicare prescription drug plan when they do retire, without penalty.
