The Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention (JCRP) was the first, and remains the only, professional journal dedicated to improving multidisciplinary clinical practice and expanding research evidence specific to both Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. In 2023, JCRP also celebrated its 16th year of an expanded scope by including primary Prevention of cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. This year we made a change to our issue lineup as we "sunset" the long-running Literature Update section and added a new Invited Editorial. Our first Invited Editorial appeared in the March issue and we have had one in each issue since. These editorials provide a commentary on a topic that was the focus of one of the articles in that issue.

 

This past year was another good one for the Journal as we have continued to notice a substantial improvement in the overall quality of submissions to JCRP. This coupled with a continued high number of submissions has allowed our editors to "raise the bar" for acceptance. Year-to-date the acceptance rate of manuscripts submitted to JCRP is approximately 16%, which is notably lower than the 24% average acceptance rate of the past 5 yr. These factors combined have resulted in the Journal's Impact Factor increasing to 3.8. JCRP now ranks at the 62nd percentile for all Cardiac & Cardiovascular Systems journals and at the 70th percentile for all Pulmonary and Respiratory Medicine journals. The JCRP Cite Score also increased to 5.5 this year. That puts JCRP in the top 10% for all Rehabilitation journals and the top 25% for all Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine journals. The first author, manuscript type, and key words of the five most cited articles from the 40th, 41st, and 42nd volumes of JCRP are provided in the Table.

The dedicated work of our managing editor, associate editors, editorial board, and reviewers provides authors with a reasonable response time for getting feedback on manuscripts submitted to JCRP, as the average time from the author submission to JCRP to the first decision is ~14 d. Once manuscripts are accepted, our production team and content editor work diligently to get the article readied for publication online (on the JCRP website) ahead of print. Once published, our digital media editor works with authors to help promote the article via our JCRP Social Media outlets.
