Abstract

A LUMBAR PUNCTURE is done to withdraw a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimen from the subarachnoid space. You'll help the patient into position, support her during the procedure, and assess her for complications.

* Make sure the patient has given informed consent. Note and report any lab abnormalities. Check for allergies, especially to skin antiseptic or local anesthetic. Let her empty her bladder and bowels.
