Abstract

This study determined the perceptions of registered dietitians (RDs) working in acute care settings to their access to sources of empowerment in the workplace. A mailed questionnaire was used. Results suggest that these RDs perceived themselves to have moderate access to sources of empowerment. Respondents with the longest time in practice and those who were older had statistically significant higher scores than those in the other categories. RDs working in clinical positions have access to sources of empowerment in the workplace. Organizational structure, administration, and the dietitians themselves all can influence perceptions of empowerment.
